Superior Waterproofing

AM Shield Waterproofing Corp. features Tremco sealants for foundation membranes. The benefit of these time tested membranes are their ability to expand and contract with normal foundation movement and maintain it's permanent bond to the foundation eliminating water TREMCO, Waterproofing, membranepenetration. Materials such as "tar" do not have flexible properties, water can penetrate behind the membrane and cause seepage soon after installation. Another common method of waterproofing would be "panels" that are filled with sodium bentonite and hung on the foundation wall. The bentonite, when introduced to water, expands and seals the foundation. In some cases the expansion process pushes the product off the wall causing voids behind the membrane and ultimately a failure will occur.

Foundation waterproofing eliminates both water seepage and moisture transpiration through the foundation walls. This process requires excavation of the foundation to the bottom of the building's footing. Foundation cracks, holes and penetrations are repaired with a hydraulic cement to patch or bridge the concrete and allow a smooth surface for the installation of a waterproofing membrane. AM Shield utilizes both trowel grade and heat spray applied membranes.

Homeowners should use common sense when hiring a contractor to do exterior waterproofing. Safety must play an important role in this process. Improper excavation and backfill can lead to personal and/or structural damage. Contractors should be licenses, insured and follow OSHA and local regulations regarding excavation.

Foundation Excavation
Property is marked out to locate all utilities buried in the area.

Surrounding areas are protected prior to excavation.

Foundation wall is excavated to the depth of the footing.

Foundation wall is cleaned and inspected.

Foundation Damage
foundation wall, damage, leaky foundation After excavation certain foundation walls can be found in this condition. Years of water penetration, freeze and thaw and settlement can damage a foundation making structural repair necessary.

Foundation Repair
When a foundation is found in poor structural condition all lose or deteriorated concrete is removed. A bonding agent is applied to the foundation and a high performance mortar repair is installed to the foundation wall prior to applying a waterproofing membrane.

Trowl Applied Waterproofing Membrane

customer testimonials, satisfaction

On Sunday we experienced the heaviest most prolonged rain I can ever remember on Long Island. Before we contracted with AM Shield to waterproof our basement it would flood during even a modest rainstorm. We wanted you to know that even though huge "ponds" of water formed in the front and back yards during the storm the basement stayed absolutely dry.

Thank you for an excellent job. If on occasion you need a reference, please let me know in advance.

Best regards,
James O. Greene
